I consider myself a “Layerist”. My work starts with the subtle textures of monotype or my own photographs. From there, I may combine paint with my own hand-painted papers, paying special attention to the mood that I am trying to convey in the piece. At this point, I continue the layering process with the addition of encaustic painting, using a mixture of beeswax, damar resin for hardening and pure pigment for color. I enjoy combining mediums to create works that are rich in color, texture and luminosity.
Painting this way becomes my own personal, intuitive journey. When I experience nature, I gain a deep appreciation of the energy that we share. This appreciation leads me to an investigation of the image. I use different mediums and combine them to express my feelings. This layering process enables me to travel deeper into my process of creating art.
